Upgrading Fire Safety & System Reliability at PT Kaltim Parna Industri: Addressable Fire Alarm Installation & Integration
In industrial environments, fire safety is not just a regulatory checkbox—it’s a mission-critical component of operational continuity, personnel safety, and asset protection. I had the privilege of contributing to this mission through a fire alarm system modernization project at PT Kaltim Parna Industri (KPI), specifically at the Graha Parna building.
Project Objective
The main objective was to replace the outdated fire alarm system and integrate a new addressable panel with two existing fire alarm control panels across different buildings—creating a unified, networked fire safety system that can respond in real-time across the entire facility.
System Architecture & Specifications
1. Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP)
- Brand/Model: Advanced MX-5201
- Capacity: 2 addressable loops
- Function: Serves as the central command unit for managing all input/output devices across the building.
2. Human Machine Interface (HMI)
- Model: Advanced TouchControl-10
- Features: Full-color touchscreen with intuitive layout for real-time alarm/fault status, event history, and system diagnostics.
3. Detection & Notification Devices
- 37 Smoke Detectors (Hochiki ALN-EN)
- 27 Heat Detectors (Hochiki ATJ-EN)
- 2 Manual Call Points (Hochiki HCP-E(SCI))
- 3 Alarm Bells (Kobishi MBA-6)
- 3 Strobe Beacons (SYS-ST)
4. System Integration & Networking
- Network Module: MXP-503 Ad-Net
- Purpose: Enables communication between the new panel, new HMI and existing panels, forming a multi-master topology for cross-building alert propagation and synchronization.
Outcomes & Impact
Upon completion, Graha Parna now benefits from a fully addressable, integrated fire alarm system that:
Building-wide alarm synchronization, Enables real-time monitoring from any panel location, Delivers visual and audible alerts with minimal delay and Offers modular expansion for future upgrades
Closing Thoughts
It was a rewarding experience to lead this project from the engineering side, from planning and configuration to final commissioning. As industrial facilities continue to digitize their safety systems, I believe these types of intelligent, networked fire protection solutions will become standard—not just for compliance, but for sustainable operational excellence.
Because in industrial safety, every second matters, and every signal counts.
